For historic window restoration shops

Know where every sash is and what it has cost.

Parting Bead tracks each part from the opening to the bench and back, puts your crew’s hours on the part they worked, and shows labor against your estimate while the job is still open.

$199 per shop per month. Or start with a $99 assisted 30-day pilot.

The problem

A restoration job comes apart before it goes back together.

On the rack

Forty sashes off one house, numbered in pencil. Which one is the upper sash from the north bedroom?

On the timesheet

Hours land on the job, not the window, so you can’t see which openings ate the time.

At the end

You learn a job ran over once it’s finished, when there’s nothing left to change.

Parting Bead keeps each part, its stage and its labor in one record: from the opening to the rack, and back where it belongs.

01 · Parts

Every part keeps its window.

Add the job’s windows with their location and size, then the sashes, stops, cords and glass you take out. Each part gets a short code your crew can write on a tag.

  • Codes like W1-SASH-U tie a part to its opening
  • Every stage change is kept, with who made it and when
  • Mistakes are corrected with a note, never erased
Window W1, front parlor, 30 1/2 by 64 3/8 inches, double hung, with its parts: an upper sash in repair, a replaced cord and a new cord. The upper sash's history: removed to in repair, in repair to ready, then a correction back to repair by Maya Ortiz because the putty failed the check.

02 · Board

See the whole job by stage.

Identified, removed, in repair, ready, installed. The board shows every part in its stage and where it sits in the shop, so anyone can find that sash without walking the racks.

  • Select a stack of parts and move them in one step
  • Shop locations like Rack B or Glazing table
  • Moving a part back a stage asks for the reason

03 · Time

Log time at the bench, on a phone.

Technicians pick the job, the part if there is one, a quick time and the kind of work. Nothing to install: Parting Bead runs in the phone’s web browser.

  • Time on a single part, or on the whole job
  • Strip, repair, glaze, finish, install, admin
  • Owners and managers can split one entry across several parts without counting it twice
Logging time on a phone: project P-100, component W1-SASH-U, with the 1 hour quick time chosen.

04 · Labor

Labor against the estimate, while the job is open.

Give parts an estimate in hours or dollars. Parting Bead costs every logged hour at that person’s pay rate and shows the difference by part, by window and for the whole job.

  • Parts without an estimate stay in the totals, not hidden
  • Time not yet submitted is counted and flagged
  • A shop pay rate plus per-person rates, each with a start date
Where the labor went: estimated parts took 3 hours 12 minutes against 6 hours and $85.95 against $247.50; parts with no estimate took 5 hours 3 minutes and $168.30; whole-job time was 2 hours 45 minutes and $74.25. Labor by window: W1, 4 components, 3 hours 12 minutes and $94.20; W2, 2 components, 5 hours 3 minutes and $160.05.

05 · Extra repairs

Price the extra work. Keep the customer’s answer.

When strip-down turns up rot or a cracked pane, a technician flags it from the part. The office prices it, prints a clean copy for the customer, and records whether they approved.

  • Lines priced by time at a rate, plus materials and fixed charges, with tax
  • A printed customer copy with just the scope and prices
  • Revisions keep the earlier version and its decision
Change order 2, Extra repairs found on strip-down, revision 1, pending decision, with Print customer copy. Five priced lines, from consolidating rot in the lower rail to rebuilding a sash with new cords and weights: subtotal $627.61, 8.25% tax $51.78, total $679.39. Next step: Record approval, Record decline or Make a revision.

06 · Roles

Your crew sees the work, not the wages.

Four roles decide what each person can see and do. Pay rates, labor costs, estimates and prices stay with owners and managers.

Questions

Before you book.

What does my crew need to use it?

A phone, tablet or computer with a current web browser. There’s nothing to install. Parting Bead saves as you go, so it needs an internet connection; it doesn’t work offline.

How do we get started?

Book a demo and bring a job you’re working on. If it fits, the pilot starts with us setting up your shop, team and pay rates with you and entering your first job together.

Can I bring in jobs from a spreadsheet?

Not automatically yet. During the pilot we enter your first job with you.

Does it print labels or scan QR codes?

No. You type part codes in and write them on your own tags or tape. Photos aren’t supported yet either.

Does it do invoicing or payments?

No. Parting Bead tracks the work, the time and the extra repairs. Keep using your accounting software for invoices and payments.

Can customers approve change orders online?

Not yet. Print the customer copy, get their answer, then record it in Parting Bead with their name.

Who can see our costs?

Owners and managers. Technicians and viewers never see pay rates, labor costs, estimates or prices.

Is our shop’s data kept separate?

Yes. Every record belongs to one shop, and every request is checked against the signed-in person’s shop and role.

See it on one of your own jobs.

Send your shop’s name and a job you’re working on. We’ll walk through it in Parting Bead together.
